Compare the work of Andre Kertesz and Henri Cartier-Bresson versus the work of Eugene Smith and Sebastiao Salgado. They are photojournalist with different approaches.

What are the main differences and similarities?
Andre Kertesz and Henri Cartier-Bresson take photos of positive and happier moments, as opposed to Eugene Smith and Sebastiao Salgado who take negative and depressing pictures. Kertesz’s photographs are very abstract and simple showing examples of a woman’s face or a fork on a plate. Cartier-Bresson takes photos of people, whether it is a group or just a couple. The photos of couples are pleasing and show truth to how the relationship is. Eugene Smith’s photos are of people usually going through hard times such as war, or people with disabilities. Sebastiao Selgado takes photographs of people in tribes or communities that are less fortunate and have disabilities.

From top to bottom: Andre Kertesz, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Eugene Smith, Sebastiao Selgado

What’s the better journalistic approach?
I believe the better journalistic approach  is to take photos of whatever the story you're trying to tell is based on. If you're trying to show people what the less fortunate have and how the public can help then I would take photographs like Eugene Smith and Sebastiao Selgado. If I'm trying to show people a new and different style of photography which presents itself as unique, then I would take photographs like Andre Kertesz and Henri Cartier-Bresson. I don't believe either approach is wrong because the way the pictures are taken and presented are what the story is about that they're trying to tell us.
